Travel Search Engines user guide

It is important to know what you're doing before you try to do so. You can find great deals by using travel search engines, but only if you know the right steps to use in finding great deals. For specific travel search engines, go to How to Find Cheap Flights.

Check Each Component

There are many tips that are important when it comes to being able to use travel search engines for your travel needs. First of all, don't just look at the overall total when you are booking prices. Actually take apart all of the components of the package and see if you are getting a good deal for them. Price them separately, and then add them together to see if you are getting a great package.

Try Different Sites

Remember, also, that even if you have a favorite travel site, only visiting one is not the way to go. You want to check many different travel sites so that you can be sure you are getting the best deal. Otherwise, you might not even know that a good deal passes you up. Again, price all of the components separately and check with other travel sites to be sure that you are getting a good deal. Don't just assume that the deals are the same on all of the travel sites.

Go Specific

Sometimes, you need to use a specific airline, or go with a specific hotel. If you know that your itinerary needs to be revised, or you have other accommodations that cannot be flexible, you might consider going directly through the airline or the hotel. Sometimes, travel sites will have cancellation and refund policies that do not benefit you at all, so be sure that if this is the case you are going through the airline or hotel.

Try Both Types

You can either book online using search engines or travel sites. Be sure to do both. Do a search on a travel site search engine, and also do the same search within the standard travel site. You will find that you might have more luck because you will be able to secure the best deal doing this.

Don’t forget The Fees

Many times, prices look good upfront – until you get to the section about the fees. Many mainstream travel sites will have booking fees – while search engine sites might not. If your free ends up being more than it would cost to book directly with the hotel or through the airline, go with the direct route instead.

Always Check First

Even if you have decided to go with a travel site for booking, always check with the hotel or airline before you purchase them. Sometimes, if you can find a lower price on websites, the airline or hotel might be able to meet that lower price. Many destinations now have this as a policy, so be sure to check with them first.

Know The Cancellation Policy

Many times, a travel website will have a much higher cancellation policy than simply booking through the hotel or website. Sometimes they will not. Before you book, be sure to research the cancellation policy, just to make sure that it fits within your budget and that you are aware of it so you can continue to get the best deal.

Remember Travel Sites Have Offshoots

Many travel sites have offshoots for overseas divisions. If you are traveling overseas or going somewhere exotic, check with the other sites. If you are traveling within Mexico, for instance, check the travel site's Mexican site – which will usually have lower fares within the host country. If you can work with the sites that are based in the countries to which you are traveling, you'll find that you can get a hold of the better deals. Most travel sites have components within other countries, so do a little bit of research and a little bit of digging in order to find them. The savings could be outstanding.
